We back emerging companies with our own capital and stay involved.
We invest our own money, directly, in a small number of companies each year. We are not a fund. There are no limited partners, no investment committee and no capital we are obliged to deploy on anyone else’s schedule.
That freedom lets us be selective, make decisions directly and take a position meaningful enough to merit our attention.
We do not intend to write a small check into a large round and simply read the quarterly update.
What We Look For
The shape of a deal we can do
Business maturity
Beyond the idea stage. We look for a working product or a near-complete prototype and evidence of a real market. Revenue is preferred, although signed contracts or other credible evidence of near-term revenue may be sufficient.
Investment size
We generally expect an initial investment of up to $250,000, although we will consider a larger investment in the right circumstances. We may also make follow-on investments.
Structure
Convertible note preferred. Equity considered.
Geography
The Southeast preferred. Anywhere in the United States considered.
Sectors
Business-to-business and professional services · Financial services and fintech · Business software · Healthcare and medical · Real estate
Our role
We invest to be involved. Depending on the company, that may mean a board seat, a board-observer role or an ongoing advisory relationship.
Where We Fit Best
Said up front, so you can judge the fit yourself
We are at our best where the business is not built on carrying product and inventory. Where inventory is a small and manageable part of the deal, we would consider it strongly.
We are far more interested in a business that applies artificial intelligence inside a sector we know than in one whose product is the model.
We generally prefer to invest independently. Where a company operates in a field outside our own experience, we may invest alongside another angel who brings meaningful expertise in that industry.
Who You Would Be Dealing With
Experience from two different sides of building a business

Steven C. Koegler
PRINCIPAL
Steven brings 56 years of experience across law, investing and business. His background includes tax and securities law, serving as general counsel to an international business, owning and operating companies, and venture investing. He has built businesses, sold one and lost money in others—experience that informs both the questions he asks and the risks he takes.

Jeff Koegler
PARTNER
Jeff is an entrepreneur and the owner of a marketing and branding firm he built from scratch. He brings an operator’s perspective to positioning, customers, communication and the practical challenge of making people understand why a young business matters.
Jeff contributes his operating, marketing and creative judgment throughout the evaluation process. Steven and Jeff jointly make the final investment decision for Koegler Capital.
The Father-and-Son Journey
Investment is the business. The series documents the learning.
Steven and Jeff produce a YouTube series following their father-and-son journey through angel investing. The series draws on Steven’s five decades of legal, business, and venture experience and Jeff’s entrepreneurial and creative perspective as they learn, evaluate opportunities, and make decisions together.
The Door
Send us what you have.
A deck is enough to start. If you already have a business plan, a financial model, and a capitalization table, send those as well—we will ask for them eventually.
If you are not certain you fit what is above, send it anyway. We would far rather read something and pass than never see it.
One of us reads everything that arrives. If it is not for us, we will say so plainly and quickly, and tell you why. If it is, we will get back to you with questions. Submissions are treated as confidential to Koegler Capital unless separate media participation is invited and expressly agreed.
